Oppo aren’t a company to shy away from new technology so it comes as no surprise that the company are dabbling with the idea of a phone with folding screen.
Over the year Oppo have brought some great features to the smartphone world. VOOC was one of the earlier fast charging technologies and has continued to evolve. Oppo were one of the first companies to make a remote for controlling your camera, and let’s not forget rotating cameras on smartphones.
Gizchina News of the week
An idea the company have been playing with over the past year is a device that can be folded with a folding display. The project kicked off back in August of 2015 and apparently Oppo had the first working prototype by February this year.
The image above shows the concept phone which looks a lot like a Nintendo 3DS only with one very large folding display (or is it two screens with a joint?). There is also a front camera on the device too.
It’s not clear if Oppo will be working to make a production phone using this type of technology, but if they were would it be something that we would buy?
Note to self: Lets do folding phones to so we start selling more than oppo again
Folding phone is no use for now. It is just gimmic to lure those rich young people to buy, They can get easy big money (from their rich parents) and somehow they only have very little brain. Problem is how many people got this kind of easy money ??
Better to improve the battery life that can last longer (very big ampere with slim design). Fast charging that can finish in less than 2 hours. I think it is time to use a different new technology as lithium is way too old. Screen that is more durable ,waterproof, crack-proof screen, bending proof body, etc etc
And again please increase Xiaomi mainstream model availability stocks as it is always dry out. How to sell more if Xiaomi don’t have ready stock LOL.
My dear, how come u dont understand the sarcasm in my message, and would our stock always be sold out if we wouldnt be selling phones?
if you will do that, make sure u have good stock of those. or some of the rich kids gonna cry =)
Why are you refering to rich kids, millet max start at afordable 1499 RMB
Main reason that it’s foldable, that way it’s possible to fit in pocket???
Fast charging that can finish in less than 2 hours ? OMG where were you this 2 last years ?
Oppo VOOC technology from 2014 charge 100% (3000mAh) in 75mn, 75% in 30mn. Super VOOC will charge 100% (2500mAh) in 15mn, 40% in 5mn. This tech will be available in next Oppo’s flagship, Q4 2016.
As for the durability of phones, some phones have magnesium alloy structures which ensure high resistance to shock, bending and whatever. LG V10 has military resistance certification as an exemple. Many phones are IP68.
What is your everyday phone if i may ask ?
BTW foldable phones are still trendy in asia, even if we westerners completely forgot this concept when touch screen appeared.
Fast Charging in less than 2 hours? You mean like virtually every phone with fast charging today? My Meziu MX5 with 3050mAh charges from 0-100 in about 55 minutes…
The corner folding area is obviously a carved out section to allow the screen to bow around rather than fold. The pictures make it look weird so would be good to see more in future of this device/phone. Yeah I bet Nintendo are thinking about this too, if it’s price effective.
lol hopefully nobody ever makes something that horrid.
anyone using the screen on the inside like this deserves to be tickled to death, multiple times.
I don’t think we have ever agreed….until now! God that thing is ugly
That’s to be expected, it’s a prototype device. If this technology is ever used in an actual smartphone, they’ll probably give it a nicer looking design.
They have no place to go but up lol. The technology is amazing and could be the future of tablets. Not sure I would want it in my phone though.

There are many foldable phones afficionados in Asia and it may exist a market for a phone like that… from my POV its an anachronism to implement a foldable touch screen in a foldable phone, as the lower part is traditionnaly used to keep a physical keyboard.
