Resellers start accepting pre-orders for the Mi Band 2

Mi Band 2

The Mi Band 2 took it’s own time coming, but the nifty little wearable is here to stay.

The gadget now has a proper OLED display — something that had been missing from the Mi Band. Perhaps the only thing that had been missing on the device!

In our reviews of the Mi Band and the Mi Band Pulse, we’ve found both gadgets to use immensely sensibly put together. While they may not have the bells and whistles of other fitness bands on the market, the Mi Band series has become a favourite thanks to the battery longevity, low maintenance nature and of course, super affordable prices.

Gizchina News of the week

Mi Band 2

The Mi Band 2, with its OLED display, can be pre-ordered by folks outside of China (in addition to the people in the country, of course). The gadget is on pre-sale for $39.99 here for example, with shipped slotted to begin soon. The Geekbuying team, in fact, promises us that it already has stock and that one will be dispatched for testing to the GizChina offices soon. Anyone planning to get a fitness band upgrade here?

Hey Martijn, thanks! I primarily need this to to track my heartbeat and burnt calories 24/7. Maybe you had luck testing that? I held off from buying the first one since you needed to click to start tracking.

And if so, what kind of output are you able to get? Any software to track your progress?

And third question, if you enable it to track always – what’s the battery lifetime?

      Thanks.

        Hey @Eid,

Burnt calories are tracked 24/7, heart rate you have to track yourself, which takes around 3-5 seconds. If tracked, it will appear in the results overview on the Mi App. So yes, you need to click to start, but it’s super easy, fast and reliable and you see the heart rate directly on the screen. I really advise you to install the Mi App. Everything is tracked and presented nicely.

Yes, battery can be tracked at all the times. Everything can be read from the screen, heart rate, calories, distance, time, battery etc. Even app notifications like FB and WhatsApp.

The picture below shows the accuracy of he heart rate: http://imgur.com/HnyLCLO.jpg

Wow! TYVM for making the effort to test it. I wonder how does it measure calories if you don’t know what the heart rate is? :/ Any idea?

Also, is it possible to activate heart rate tracking for an extended period of time? Like an hour? Whilst running for example.

Yes, I’m going to get one for certain – but I’m going to wait for the reseller price to drop down to approx £20gbp before I do (and I will not hand over a single penny to GearBest).

      Why not GearBest then?

I have bought lots from them over the last couple of years. A few bits haven’t arrived, two have been damaged and one was completelt the wrong spec product. 80% of the stuff has been fine, until I needed to return something of value (faulty nubia z7, that I wanted repaired/replaced under warranty as it failed and we as unusable after 3 weeks) – that was a nightmare, in a nutshell they insulted me and tried to rip me off(thier terms and conditions are written in such a way that it gives a buyer almost no protection at all – if you return something by anything other than snail-mail, they refuse it – I ended up getting China customs staff to pressure them) Worst customer service experience I have ever had. I ended up getting a refund through PayPal months later, but it still left me significantly out of pocket. I can send you all the details and transcripts if you wish! It wasted a huge ammount of my time and cost me a fair chunk of money, so I will never spend a single penny with them and I would suggest that nobody else does either.
