The much leaked Lenovo Project Tango phone has finally been officially announced by Lenovo with a on sale date of September.
Lenovo have created a 6.4-inch phone with the Lenovo Phab 2 Pro with a QHD (that’s a 2K resolution) with special sensors built-in that can learn about the environment it is in.
The Tango phone will become more aware of its environment the more you use it and as it gets smarter you can ask it more about the space it is in. The idea is going to appeal to interior decorators, and AR game developers, but at this stage we’re not sure how these features will benefit traditional smartphone customers.

The Phab 2 Pro will cost just $499 which sounds pretty good consider the new technology packed in to the handset, and overall the hardware isn’t too bad for the money.
Pushing the pixels around on that high resolution display is a Snapdragon 652 chipset and 4GB RAM, the front camera is an 8 mega-pixel shooter while the rear cameras are made up of a 16 mega-pixel RGB camera, IR camera and fisheye camera.
There is also a fingerprint scanner, Dolby Atmos audio, a large 4050mAh battery with fast charging and a fingerprint scanner.
Lenovo will be selling the Phab 2 Pro through Best Buy in the U.S from September. We also expect the phone to go on sale in the EU around the same time too.

I can tell that this year there are a lot of people approaching this territory and it’s a service you can do for them.
What are your thoughts?
I think it is an excellent idea, one of those articles is initially what led me to this site. I remember reading through it thinking who are these companies and which brand is good/bad. I believe it was this one below, just look how far weve come since these days lol:

You’re both right… maybe the reason is that there are more and more similar phones released every week (day?) and none of them is above the pack. Back in 200x, it was another deal 🙂

i’m not that nteristed in it before i see a few more of the possible stuff you can do ^^ because 6,4″ is a bit to big for me.
I’m liking everything about this phone except for 2 things, the cpu and the fact it’s Lenovo, I really would’ve liked to have seen something with a little more grunt than the SD652 running the show.
I would like to like these phones that lenovo came with but they all seem to be lacking in one way or another…
one is nice and thin then lacks a 3.5mm audio jack and a decent battery a more out there camera…
the other one is huge and packs tech not for everyone yet and gets a SoC that’s not top tier…
And the third is mehh…
The way of the beloved BlackBerry is going to get wider … … …

Somehow this is missed product already. Having a capable VC/AI accelerator but not having a capable GPU to back it up for VR is a total miss. I don’t think neither AR nor machine learning will make some huge mainstream occupation nor usage.
By the way & it’s on topics I would like to hear some opinions about new ARM MALI GPU architecture as I think they killed 3 flies by one hit.
It’s suitable for AI as the SIMD-s are very flexible including 8 bit ops, they now have more efficient Tile based rendering even then Power VR & finally new frame patching technique they use will bring much smaller overheads reducing latencies especially important for VR.
I do guess that next generation will bring a capable DSP for AI, VC, along with offloading of usual hi parallel tasks I also think that they will go with unified SIMD area but for that purpose DSP block should be merged as a integral not optional part & I don’t think L. I.P. rest of industry will actually like that idea but we will see.
ARM is going to be able to license fully FSA SoC’s soon.
Well after my lenovo vibe z2 died after “8 mons” restarts and blue screens … i don;’t want reallly to buy lenovo gadgets no so happy witch them
