Huawei have released their 2nd Honor branded dual camera phone today in the shape of the all new Huawei Honor 8.
The Honor 8 represents Huawei’s 3rd dual camera phone to date. It is the 2nd phone with dual cameras this year, after the P9, and the 3rd overall when you could the Honor P6 Plus.
Like previous Honor branded phones, the Honor 8 is aimed at a lower price bracket with the new phone sitting slap bang in the middle of phones from rivals in terms of price and specs.
The $300 phone (there are actually 3 versions ranging from 1999 Yuan all the way to 2499 Yuan) features a sleek all glass design that comes in either white, blue, gold, pink or black with matching CNC alloy chassis.
Up front is a 5.2-inch FHD panel, with narrow bezels but there are no hardware controls for cycling though Android. Instead all controls are onscreen and the chin of the Honor 8 gets additional Honor branding.
Gizchina News of the week
The rear of the device is a little more feature rick with a fingerprint scanner, dual LED flash and dual 12 mega-pixel cameras. The cameras might not have the same Leica backing as the P9 but the set up is the same with one sensor dealing with RGB and the other black and white. Both are Sony sourced IMX286 units and feature laster auto focus.
Internally the Honor 8 get’s NFC, Kirin 950 chipset and options from either 3+32GB or4+64GB. There is also a 3000mAh battery with fast charing, dual SIM support, an IR remote and the fingerprint scanner will work with payment systems.
Other than the amount of memory available the only other differences between models is the fact the most expensive variant will support all Chinese carriers.
All in all the 7.55mm Honor 8 looks like a cracking phone, and we can’t wait to see if Honor in the UK and Europe will sell the phone too.
When can we expect a review?
WAIT … no type c ?!
It comes with USB-C.
thx for the correction bro !
It’s USB 2.0 with a Type-C connector.
oh.. sorry
i got my viewing angles all wrong , i gess
they list full specs in this pdf but this is too small for you so doubt you care http://www.honor.cn/wp-content/uploads/sites/3/2016/07/honor8.pdf
all that mandarin tho !
They shouldn’t have gone with Kirin 950 tho. The GPU is lacking.
For a $300 device, isn’t it a great bargain ? I don’t see so much difference with a SD652, for instance, and I can’t see any prejudice to this device usability.
true though. for $300 it’s still a bargain. And knowing Huawei, the quality should be good. But next to Zuk Z2, I’d get Zuk Z2 though 🙂 hehe
why should you prefere Zuk Z2 over a Huawei Kirin 950 + dual cam $300 phone ? I thought Huawei quality was above…
lenovo does a good job at quality too eventho huawei might be better. I prefer zuk z2 cause i get 820 for $300 and i’m not really a fan of emui. Just a personal opinion of course.
hmmm OK i get it.
IMHO SD820 vs Kirin 950 isn’t really a battle, as the two SoC deliver enough power for any app. I’d try to compare the other specs to choose from this 2 phones.
oh and also because i love custom development support cause i like flashing custom roms such as CM, AOSP and etc. Kirin chipset doesn’t have much custom dev supports compared to SD.
thanks, I wasn’t aware of that.
Love that blue color! Can’t wait to read some reviews on this. Hopefully it follows the Honor 5X and launches in the US.
Are you going to get it ?
Whats your top 5 phones now ?
I think he’s deciding between OnePlus 3 and Huawei P9 (Zuk Z2 Pro is an alternative).
But I guess this Honor 8 is cheaper, has a pretty design and has similar specs.
Its almost identical to the P9 I believe.
Right now:
1. OnePlus 3
2. Zuk Z2 Pro
3. Huawei Mate 8
4. Huawei P9
5. Gionee S8
This could be in the running depends on reviews. The soon to release MX6 could if it has US LTE.
Huawei Mate 8 is a new one to the line up ?
How about LG G4?
Too ugly for me.
I’m happy with my Mate 8.
It is my first Huawei device. They have implemented a bunch of useful features.
Often I am surprised by the good lowlight of the camera.
I love the battery power.
The only downside for me is the size, sometimes I wish it were only a 5.5“ device
Lol, I want the Mate 8 because of it’s size.
Are you in Germany for Business? Will you buy it from me, can we meet? 🙂
But really, is there something similar to the Mate8 but in 5.5“?
I don’t get to Europe too often, mostly I am in Asia or South America these days. There is the Huawei P9 Plus that is 5.5”.
Your top three is the same as mine lol, except I have the Z2 Pro first then the Mate 8 then OnePlus 3.
I really like the Z2 Pro, but I’m not sure how long it’ll take them to release the black version..
Or if they’ll release it internationally like they did with the Z1.
Probably see what Xiaomi release too and decide
If and when Blu releases the Gionee S8 as their next Vivo phone that will move to the top of my list. Or if Gionee released an E9.
I told you the Huawei Honor 8 is one of my favourites haha
But no OIS, 4k recording, no softkey buttons and no LTE band 20 is quite disappointing.. but that glass design tho lol
Black and blue are looking awesome!
I hope they come out with a global model. For me 4k and OIS aren’t important.
From what I’ve heard there will be global model, as this is expected to be sold in the UK from September
The original goal of the Honor Brand was to sell phones globally in countries where the Huawei name isn’t strong or is marred in controversy.
Looks better than nubia z11.
That Blue looks awesome. Best looking phone of the year for me so far.. Well done and about bloody time! lol
Honor have again outdone themselves. Gorgeous looking devices with nice specs and great pricing.
I call dibs on the black one 😀
The Honor V8 also has dual cameras.
Looks promising !
Design is great, SoC is OK, dual cam is great too…everything for the right price. The next Xiaomi phone will be harder to sell.
I hope they won’t screw everything for us foreigners by launching a 1800/2100Mhz only LTE…
They’ll be an international version with all the LTE bands, as this is expected to be sold in the UK in September from the Three netwrok
