The JiaYu S4 has been surrounded in will they or won’t they mystery for some time, but finally it looks like the phone will be coming to the market and with the following specs.
JiaYu had been in a bit of turmoil over the past year, but recent changes to the company could mean that they are back in the game will be getting back to the market by September.
The first new phone from JiaYu will be the much anticipated JiaYu S4 which apparently is already in the sample stage and will begin European trails in the coming weeks.
Gizchina News of the week
Specs for the JiaYu S4 so far included a Helio P10 chipset, 4GB RAM, 32GB memory, 5.5-inch Sharp IGZO display, and 13 mega-pixel rear camera. The JiaYu S4 will be the first JiaYu ever to ship with a rear fingerprint scanner and USB Type C, and also looks set to be the first CNC alloy JiaYu too.
No word on pricing, but as JiaYu have sales channels already set up in Germany and Spain it should at least be easy to buy.
battery?
my thoughts exactly, its like batteries is such a no one cares specs it isnt “leaked” very much or mentioned
Judging by how thick it looks it looks like they copied rn3 and placed a 4000 mah battery.
Depending on the pricing this could end up being a decent option.
There is a life after dead but that is not for jiayu,i have used 2 jiayu phone ,our survival has end.
I think it’s a decent upgrade from the Jiayu S3, sadly it contains a weaker SoC (Should have got SD652 / P20 or X25).
And I must say that if the design from the photo is real that it looks very good in my opinion, clean and simple. Hopefully it wont be too pricey.
Send from a Jiayu S3 btw.
Edit:
Oh, and do I see laser autofocus there on the back …
It’s not a weaker SoC, the P10 and 6752 are about the same in performance, they are both 8 core A53 chips that are clocked around 2ghz. The P10 has a better GPU, is more efficient and a better modem.
I will agree on the efficiency and modem points and that on paper it appears to have a better GPU. The thing is though, the real world gaming performance seems worse. All the video reviews I have of the P10 especially in asphalt 8 are incredibly choppy. I have 3 67 52 phones and all of them handle it on highest settings with a lot less lag. At first I thought it might be optimisation but it seems to affect all p10 phones. But worse than that is that the x20 and x25 seem to suffer from the same problem. People have commented that the gaming performance of the x10 seemed better. My personal opinion is that mediatek with there new generation of SOCs have created a bottle neck between GPU and CPU since on paper they should be better
S7yler plays Asphalt 8 in his review of the P9000 which uses the P10 it isn’t incredibly choppy at all, he also does an MTK shootout with the Zoppo Speed 8 (X20), Umi Super (P10), Ulefone Future (P10) and Elephone S3 (6753) in which he plays Asphalt 8 on high settings and again none of them are incredibly choppy.
I just watched the P9000 review thanks. I must still watch the shootout. That’s definitely the best I have seen from the P10, so maybe there is hope with updates. Installing Asphalt 8 on my 8392 powered tablet really surprised me, the Mali 450 in there handled it on a 2k resolution without any slow down. I was expecting it to be totally unplayable and it was better than my phone, so that kinda changed my perspective on things 🙂
Most Mediatek chips aren’t as bad as people make them out to be. They still have that negative stigma of being cheap underpowered chips with terrible GPS.
I’m also owner of a Jiayu S3 and I really want the S4 be the new bang-for-budget king, but they made a mistake with the SoC choice. It’s slightly better in performance, but there are already a lot of phones at around $180 that are superior to these specs (LeEco Le1 Pro X800, Xiaomi Redmi Note 3 Pro, etc).
And on top of that, Jiayu wants to enter a more premium price point (~$300), as stated by them on the german facebook page.
Too under powered. Maybe if they put a 21MP camera it might sneak through to the attractive mark.
Why would a 21mp camera make it attractive? 21mp wouldn’t make it a better camera it would just give it a bigger MP number and most of the 21mp sensors like the IMX 230 and OV21840 are older sensors.

looks very clean with a potential good build quality, sadly it has a useless soc and going by Jiayu standards looks like it’s going to be another 8.0mm – 9.0mm

By itself it seems fine, compared to the competition it is a joke.
Competition will depend on pricing. If it’s priced like a flagship it will be a joke, technically this will be Jiayu’s flagship. But if it’s priced under $300 it could be a very good phone.
pricing will determine if this is hot cakes or just another phone…

5.5 inch seriously? Jiayu didn’t you notice everyone is producing those and you’d be far better off competing in the 5 inch (girls) department where it’s hard to find a decent phone?
Actually the new size everyone is producing is around 5.2 inches. Nearly every flagship this year has been around 5.2.

Wow, I totally forgot that JiaYu still exists! =P
Still going with mediatek I see. Well good luck.

I have F2,G3,G4,S3 …. problem with Jiayu is that they don’t upgrade their OS… you can always use custom roms from internet but often some features are buggy, loss of GPS or camera accuracy loss … I am tired of it, I realized that having a company that maintain the OS to up to date version of Android is a must ! Android has bugs and updating is always for the better ! Jiayu, this message is for you !
