The big launch today was the Meizu MX6 which was announced with a slightly lower than expected RRP, but is that enough to warrant buying one?
The launch of the Meizu MX6 is once again another oddity in that we can’t quite understand the need for the device. Physically it’s similar to the MX5 but it lacks laser focus, has a lower resolution display and is more expensive. Hardware wise, the specs are all similar, but not quite on par with the Meizu Pro 6, with a slower CPU and GPU and again lower specs camera hardware.
So you can tell that we’re a little underwhelmed my the Meizu MX6 launch, but let’s look at what the phone does have to offer and then leave it up to you guys to tell us what you think.
New for the Meizu MX6 is a narrower body of just 7.25mm making it one of the thinnest Meizu phone’s to date, what that narrow body means is the battery isn’t the 4000mAh+ unit we all hoped it would but a 3060mAh battery instead.

The all metal phone has a 5.5-inch FHD Sharp display, there are dual SIM slots and support for all Chinese carriers.
Mediatek have provided the chipset, this time a Helio X20 10 core running at 2.3Ghz, with 4GB RAM and 32GB internal storage. Just as we were promised the rear camera is a 12 mega-pixel SonyIMX286 shooter while the front is a 5 mega-pixel camera.
One surprise detail is the inclusion of a 12v 2A fast charging system, however Meizu didn’t make any claims about the speed of the charge during launch.
Pricing for the Meizu MX6 is 1999 Yuan, but for that price you could get a Xiaomi Mi5, and for even less you can get the Meizu MX5 which would be equally as good as the MX6 judging by its specs. What do you guys think?
im just curios to see the camera performance, albeit a little late on the coverage i dont know what happens behind the scenes how much work the staff has to do etc but i hope you guys get a little more quick with phone news and be a bit more diverse with the phone brands , as a user of this site this is how it feels , this is constructive criticism
I think the biggest issue is the site needs a full time editor who will set deadlines and hold writers accountable for their work. Andi has too much going on to be a writer, editor, owner etc.

The rear is IMX 386 not 286 and the resolution is the Same as both the Pro 6 and MX5, the difference is a Sharp LCD instead of a Samsung AMOLED. Instead of Laser Focus it has PDAF.
A lot will come down to a review and what LTE bands it has. On paper the camera sounds very promising. But it will need to really impress to get me to buy one over a Axon 7, Honor 8 or Idol 4s.
also really itneristed how the camera will be compared to similiar phones like Mi5, Honor 8 and ZUK Z2 Pro, this will probably be the decider for me
I like the meizu design and i think the camera sensor itself is better compared to the pro 6
if the camera is great i would also be willing to pay like 300 or wait for the price drop to roughly 270 in a few months :p just looking for a phone with front finger print snesor and good camera..
i dont mind the 3000mah battery i think its still fine i prefer a light and slim design that gets me through the day compared to a less premium feeling tank like the redmi note 3 which is great as well..but everyone has their preferences
I think its very unlikely this will be better camera wise than the pro 6, given the fact the pro is a higher priced/specd phone. Doubt it will be able to rival mi5/z2pro or honor 8. Meizu this year have been a let down camera wise on almost all their phones, and don’t see this changing it sadly.
It’s all going to come down to reviews but on paper it should be better than the Pro 6. The MX6 vs Mi5 camera will be very interesting, the MX6 has bigger pixels, they both have f/2.0 but the Mi5 has OIS.

Hi Balco, forget about the Idol 4S I have seen a test by 01net where they say that the battery life is very poor for heavy usage. You are left with Honor 8 or Axon 7 or Xiaomi Mi Max or Meizu MX6. Cheers!
That review wasn’t too detailed and the phone hasn’t officially released yet so we don’t know if the software he is running is a final production version. I’ll wait for some reviews from the top sites before deciding on it.
It is the competitor of… Redmi Note 3 Pro that costs 170 dollars and has much bigger battery! Bravo Meizu!
X20 is the same 2xA72 as s650 and extra 4 garbage cores are useless
The RN3 Pro is also a competitor to Xiaomi’s own Mi5 which costs more and has a much smaller battery.
Not after the update that fixed the Mi5 global ROM. Better screen, camera, performance easily sets it apart by $100.
I wouldn’t say it easily sets it apart at all, I am a longtime Xiaomi fanboy and there is very little that sets the Mi5 apart from the RN3 Pro except for the screen size. On paper and in benchmarks the Mi5 is much faster in actual usage it is slightly faster and for most people the SD650 is more than powerful enough. Both phones uses a 1080p IPS LCD, they both use a 16mp f/2.0 camera.

LTE coverage (international model that supports some networks overseas)
I know several longtime Xiaomi users that chose the RN3P over the Mi5, because Xiaomi did very little to really make the Mi5 stand out.
SD820 > 650, 1600:1 > 1000:1 contrast, 4 axis OIS > whatever garbage camera is on it. LTE bands are the same on all models. You know several who chose the Redmi because until the update the Mi5 was trash.

The Taiwan version has bands 2/4/20 which means it works on US and European LTE. The Mi5 does not have those bands. Also if people bought it over the Mi5 that makes it a competitor regardless of the reasons, which makes my first statement true.
Mi5 does have those bands tho. It’s just locked. But some MIUI forumers just recently manage to unlock some of it tho.

Look at post #32 in that thread. The Mi5 doesn’t support any bands other than those listed.
With every new phone release you will see threads like that of people thinking the bands are present but hardware locked. There are ways to get Android to display all the bands but it’s a dummy method because the hardware isn’t present to take advantage of those bands. The Mi5 contains just the antennae for the bands it supports nothing else. Some phones like those from Samsung, Apple and Huawei to include all the bands but lock some out for specific countries and in those instances you can unlock them. But with the Mi5 it won’t have any affect other than showing something on screen.

Mi5 has better display (especially at sunlight), camera performance (especially video/selfie) is way better.
I considered the Mi Max as my next daily driver, but its camera is underwhelming (which is similar, even little better than Redmi 3 Pro).
My personal preference would be Mi5 with 5.5″ screen and slightly bigger camera.
Sadly the SD slot became pretty unpopular for Chinese flagships.
Would have bought it if it wasn’t for the missing LTE band 20.

And the size difference isn’t as much as you think between 5.5 and 5.2

The all Pro 6 was all wrong: specs, price and timing.
I would have preferred the MX6 at 1799¥ but no biggie. I’ve seen full resolution pics of this phone and they look very promising.
The cam is IMX 386, 12MP with 1.25 um pixels so not the best but a lot better than what is being used in 999CNY devices.
Unlike the Pro 6 and MX5 the display is not Pentile so big upside. The MX5 is also much much slower ofc.
Not that it’s a good deal at that price. They likely wanted to protect the Pro 6 but that’s a mistake.
About fast charging they did share details. The only one i remember is 65% or so in 30mins and i think 25% in 10,maybe…
i just hope that 24w doesnt make the phone too warm when charging i wish they went for more amps but maybe then they would be in some patent problems, its about time i read about pentile displays to see whats the difference
In RGB a pixel has 3 subpixels – red, blue and green.
in Super AMOLED Samsung fakes a pixel out of just 2 subpixels, either red and green or blue and green. That’s the main problem. The diamond pattern is another problem given that text has many vertical lines.
So in RGB vs Pentile you have 1920×1080 for each of the 3 colors when it comes to RGB. With Pentile you only have 960x 540 for blue and red and full res for green.
When this hits resellers you are looking at $400. That can get Axon 7, OP3, Zuk Z2 Pro, Idol 4S… even the Pro 6.

if we only compared the specs and prices, Vernee Apollo Lite costs $229.99, MX6 seems over priced.
But we know can rely on Meizu for quality and software support tho.
You could do that with pretty much any phone on the market. Specs matter but so does the brand, software, support, build quality etc. All things you won’t find on a spec sheet

You are paying bucks in your dreams. You always find downsides of the phones,that are essentials you not to buy a phone. I guess the only phone you would buy if it would cost under 75 usd and has sd821,6gb ram,64gb+sd,imx260…am I right?

On paper the camera is better overall, bigger sensor size, bigger pixel size, bigger aperture PDAF instead of Laser.
It all comes down to actual usage tho.
Pretty Much DOA for international customers in Europe. Almost the same price as Oneplus 3 and other proper SD820 flaghips, don’t know why meizu have not been competitive with their pricing this year.
They don’t need to be more competitive because they aren’t competing for international customers. Meizu’s biggest (and main) market is still China and they have built a very strong following there. This phone had 3.5 million reservations in the first 24 hours (that is huge for Meizu), it was so popular it crashed Meizu’s website. But several resellers are already listing Band 20 LTE for this phone, so it is an option for European buyers that are interested.
