Zopo plans to invest 100 crore INR ($15mn) in Indian manufacturing


Chinese phone maker Zopo recently announced the Speed 8 in the Indian market with the MediaTek Helio X20 processor. Another bit of news that went with the launch was that of Zopo’s impending investment.

Zopo revealed that they’re looking to invest 100 crore INR ($15 million) in setting up manufacture in India. Zopo have been rather quiet in the recent 12 months or so, which is why this bit of news comes as little surprising.

“Zopo has identified place in Noida for setting up its manufacturing unit with production capacity of 2 lakh units per month. The company has plans to invest Rs 100 crore to start this plant by end of this year,” said Advantage Computers (ADCOM) Managing Director Sanjeev Bhatia. ADCOM manage business for Zopo in India.

He revealed that Zopo was looking to ship 100k units every month in India. The plant, besides India, will look to cater the Bangladesh, Sri Lanka, Pakistan (via Dubai) and Nepal markets among others.

Zopo expect 25% of their Indian sales coming from handsets in the 10,000-15,000 INR range ($150-225) and another 60% from the 7,000-10,000 range ($105-150).

    Zopo, what about investing some of those million to improve your existing manufacturing structures? Speed 8 had 6 months of delay and it’s mostly shite, so it looks to me a good idea to improve what you already have before spending your money for expansion

    They r looking for easy run in Indian Market after less than steller performance in China, little knowing how tough India can be. This could be their waterloo, if they do not get product mix right.

    To build a complete smartphone factory requires a couple billion dollars. $15 million doesn’t cover the screws.

      t’s probably just an assembly plant. parts will still be manufactured in china.

    They won’t survive. With the price they are offering how are they even going to compete with Xiaomi and LeEco or even Qiku.
