Meizu fans who were hoping that the next flagship device might go back to Samsung power are going to be a little disappointed!
Back in the day a new Meizu flagship would have meant a new smartphone boasting the latest processor from Samsung. This was what Meizu fans had gotten used to from the launch of the M9 (their first Android device) right up to the MX3, but then things changed.
With the introduction of the Meizu MX4, and Meizu’s switch from offering a single device to multiple (too many?) devices each year, the Zhuhai based phone maker has being opting for Mediatek chipsets more and more often.
It’s not only the Meilan (M range), and MX range of phones that use MTK processors though, even the flagship Pro range has Mediatek inside with the latest Pro 6 getting a 10 core Helio X25 chip.
Gizchina News of the week
For those of you hoping that Meizu might switch back to Samsung for the Pro 7 then we have some bad news. In a conversation leaked to the press, Meizu bosses have confirmed that they won’t use the Samsung Exynos 8890 chipset in the Pro 7 as it does not support full network support.
The conversation doesn’t state which chip maker Meizu will use, but it is highly unlikely they will work with Qualcomm anytime soon (due to recent legal issues between the two companies) which leaves Mediatek again and possibly their new Helio X30 CPU.
What do you think of Mediatek chips in flagship phones? Do they have a place? Do their opinions on source code bother you?
??? “it’s for the network support, not because it costs us 10 times less”
OH dear u made me laugh, we say the same about redmi pro 😀
And we all laugh at you for pretending to be a guy who doesn’t speak English.
He isn’t funny anymore
It’s just sad at this point, like a comedian who never moves on from a joke.
The Network support is the same reason Samsung themselves use Qualcomm chips in China.
I doubt they will ever go back to using Samsung chips. Mediatek is a major investor in Meizu.
An this isnt a problem for most of us, I think the “Pro” or non Pro consist in the whole package not just in SoC. MX5 still being one among the best, I would pick it over 6 Pro.
Personally this year, the Meizu launches were a bit confusing for me, hope next year they improve it.
I agree they were definitely confusing but in China, Meizu has had no problem selling them. Demand has exceeded supply. China is the only market Meizu really cares about, India to a small extent.
Too bad for Meizu. I think they will soon go wey that IUNi did….
Meizu has seen substantial growth in the last two years and all of their recent releases have sold well. Not using a Exnyos processor is going to have little to no affect on them.
Remember what you hace wrote, and think about it onw year from now.
Make sure you come back end of this year when Meizu posts their financial reports.
Quo Vadis Meizu?
Use Qualcomm. Simple.
Meizu will never use Qualcomm, Mediatek is a prime investor in Meizu. They have no need to switch either, Mediatek SoC’s get better every year.
Mediatek SoC’s are getting better every year, however they tend to get hot pretty fast.
So a good cooling solution needs to be added for these SoC’s.
