The new Coolpad Conjr conjures up some disappointment

Here on Gizchina, we rarely talk about Coolpad because they’re… Well, just really mundane and boring to follow. They launch new devices every now and then, but said devices are usually just cookie cutter devices. And the new Coolpad Conjr manages to be extra disappointing, which is a pretty impressive feat.

Now in some respects, the Conjr is actually an above average device. It has a decent amount of RAM at 3GB, the device looks good (though fairly generic), and it’s even got OIS! But then, the bad news pours in and the device’s situation goes from averageĀ to terrible, fast.

Gizchina News of the week

CONJRRRRRRR

The chipset powering the Conjr is the dismal MT6735CP featuringĀ four Cortex-A53 cores running at a lowly 1GHz. On top of that, you’ve also got a weak Mali T720MP2 GPU and only 16GB of storage. The 5-inch display is a HD unit, but it’s not going to benefit the small 2,500mAh battery much.

Back to the decent specs, the rear camera is a standard 13MP unit, but it’s got OIS, which is good. There’s also the 8MP front camera which features an LED flash for those in the dark selfies. The thing weighs 148g, and its dimensions areĀ 143 x 72 x 8.66 mm.

Overall, it’s not the worst device out there, but these certainly aren’t specs we want to see on devices in 2017. The pricing is also left ambiguous, but the expected pricepoint of “below $200” doesn’t really sound good. What are your thoughts though? Tell us in the comments below.

I always liked the fact that oukitel gaved me a good optimised sowftware on my Oukitel K4000Pro wich is god damm cheaper, works for a hole day nonstop, was 100 bucks last year and still, i dont regret dat decision to buy dat phone.. Did i say i dropped the phone at least 8 times and is still shine and new?

Later edit. No, im not a oukitel employe, but they should pay me for dat much good things i say about them

If there’s someone paying for OT posts, you should definitely send him the bill….

I agree with your critical comments. But, also, it is too bulky, something I pay attention to closely because I value compactness in phones. This Coolpad phone is 72 mm wide – too wide for a 5 inch phone, compare it to the Redmi 3 series at only 69 mm. The Samsung Galaxy S7 Edge, a 5.5 inch phone, is only 72.6 mm wide so the Coolpad phone is only slightly less wide than this phone, not acceptable if you value compactness as I do. I could also mention the length – 143 mm vs the Redmi 3 series at only 139 mm. Such small size differences may not matter to everyone, but they matter to me. I think this phone is actually more expensive than the Redmi 3 series which also has a great chipset, SD 430 and a much bigger battery – 4100 mAh, so where is the advantage in buying this Coolpad phone?? Back to the drawing board I think!
