Xiaomi’s busy preparing the stage for the Redmi Note 4 launch in India, but there’s also something cooking at their home offices.
News is that Xiaomi may have given the Redmi 4 a bit of a makeover. The Chinese company’s love affair with slim bezels started with the Mi MIX late last year, and seems to have been carried on to give existing phones a fresher look.
Leaked photos of what looks like the Redmi 4 have surfaced, giving a glimpse at the slimmer bezels. While the white borders around the touch panel still exist (but look beefier?), it’s the back under-the-digitizer bezels that have shrunk.

According to Chinese media, this new and refreshed Redmi 4 started shipping 11th January onwards, which means it’s been out for a week. It’s a welcome change from Xiaomi, and it shows that the company is interested in making better its existing smartphones.

As i see bezels are even bigger but concealed with white and screen looks even smaller. Assuming new one is on the right.
Personally I would rather go back to the days of bigger bezels instead of black borders.
I’d like to know the weight of the slimmer Redmi 4 models. I complained in several of these smartphone blogs about how the Redmi 4 was bulkier and heavier than the Redmi 3 series. Also, the Mi 5S is wider, longer and heavier than the Mi 5. Maybe they are listening??!!

Specify which is the newest model, and which is the old. From the pictures I cannot see which one is the newest.

Of recent Redmi phones, as far as I know, only the 3S and 4A are available in a global firmware version. Why not the 4 and 4 Prime? The 3S Prime is still the best buy of the recent Redmi phones if you want a global version. Not sure if everyone knows this but Chinese phones come in 3 varieties normally. 1. Original ROM with Chinese and English only. You get Chinese apps and OTA updates but no Google services. 2. Retailer overlay giving you multiple languages and Google play services, apps in your own language but no OTA updates. 3 Global firmware with multiple languages, Google services, apps in your language AND OTA updates.

This is confusing, it is not the bezels that are getting slimmed down – the metal edges, but rather the black border around the screen – this is not bezels.
