MediaTek MT6588 Quad-core CPU’s Going in to production in October

Reports have emerged that chip manufacturer MediaTek are planning to put their next generation quad-core MT6588 CPU in to production as early as October!

Following on from the popularity of  the dual-core MTK MT6577 quad-core CPU which is found in literally hundreds of high-performance low-cost Chinese phones, MediaTek have released plans they will be making a limited production run of quad-core MT6588 CPU’s next month.

Gizchina News of the week

The limited run of these low-cost quad-core CPU’s will be headed to current phone manufacturers to try out in either updated version of their current phones or possibly in all new next generation quad-core devices!

The MedaiTek MT6588 quad-core CPU is designed to cope with cameras of over 10 mega-pixels, will support dual-sim WCDMA and capture 1080p video.

With any luck we will be getting our first glimpses of next generation quad-core Chinese phones very soon!

are they sticking with a9 arch or going a15 and what gpu are they using and have been using for past socs

  4. September 10, 2012

@earl cameron: Neither, it will be using the Cortex A7. As for GPU, PowerVR SGX544 for this one, but previously it used SGX531 for the MTK6575 and 6577.

Seems like a nice processor as:
” A single Cortex-A7 processor can deliver 5x energy-efficiency, 50% greater performance and is one fifth the size of the ARM Cortex-A8 processor, which powers many of today’s most popular smartphones”

As this is a Quadcore is should preform very decent and the upgrade for the GPU isn’t to bad as well. Should give a few nice new handsets have December :D!

Already waiting for the Jiayu G4 with 1080P screen that we will hear rumors about in October and will launch somewhere in March :’)

The real news is this: Dual-sim WCDMA. Finally!! For everyday use, the PowerVR SGX544 should do fine as well. I can’t wait to see the new wave of devices, however I don’t think that there’s gonna be real availability of those until early 2013..

That’s some very good news. Now we can have decent tablets also which can be dual sim blue tooth 4 gps and so on..

Going from the Chinese records, their target should be Christmas sale for 6588 equipped phone / tablets .

considering the iPhone 4s and iPad2 run dual core A9 + SGX543, having quad core A7 + SGX544 sounds promising!
