MGCOOL have finally showed us how their latest Explorer 1S action camera actually shoot videos. Now, we aren’t sure at which resolution or frame rates they have recorded these videos, but here it is:
The MGCOOL Explorer 1S packs a NT96660 chipset and adopts the 20 mega-pixel Sony IMX078 sensor, which allows it to record 4K video at 24 frames per second (QuickTime player required) and capture 20MP still images.

Beside that, it also supports shooting 2K (2560*1440)@30fps, Full HD@60fps and 720P@120fps, they all use H.264 encoding. An additional neat feature of the Explorer 1S is that it has four viewing angles: 70°, 110°, 140° and 170°, which can be seen as some kind of built-in zooming (at 70°).
The MGCOOL Explorer 1S is on sale over at Gearbest for $49.99. You’ll find more info about the camera on MGCOOL’s website.

The result seems pretty decent.
Every time I am more convinced to buy it.
4K at 24 fps is stable?.
I prefer black color.
What about the battery life?.
It’s good enough but nothing exceptional. It’s a bit grainy and it’s going to need some retouching and smoothing to produce some truly beautiful videos. The price is quite attractive though !
Apparently it’s NOT the Sony IMX078 but rather the IMX179.
