Last night Carl Pei posted a cryptic tweet which has had OnePlus and tech fans wondering just what is going to happen to the headphone jack on the new OnePlus phone.
Pei simply Tweeted âWhy did the headphone jack cross the road?â in response to Tweets about rumours the OnePlus 5 would be another flagship phone that ditches the old 3.5mm audio route.
The odd response has had people wonder what exactly this means, but to us here at GizChina the answer seems pretty clear.

Gizchina News of the week
By referencing that old âWhy did the Chicken cross the road?â joke he is actually asking how do we move on to new technologies? How do we get past features that weâve already used for so long and move onto something new.
Itâs also no secret that Pei is a big fan of what Apple does with their products and as theyâve already paved the way, itâs highly likely that OnePlus will follow.
Thatâs not to say that you wonât be able to use your 3.5mm headphones with the new OnePlus 5, but itâs highly likely youâll need a USB Type C adaptor.

huhu, nice one
“Why did the headphone jack cross the road?”
To follow fucking apple just like xiaomi did!
“Move to new technologies”? Sure! Just put a type-c ALONG the headphone jack so everyone can choose for himself! This is getting as stupid as it can get, seriously!
I’m pretty sure he is just trolling. Since the answer to that question usually is “to get to the other side” it probably means the headphone jack is moving from the bottom SIDE of the phone to the upper SIDE of the phone.
Yeah, but the original joke about the chicken and the answer “to get to the other side” refers to the after life = the other side… In other words the chicken or the headphone jack has to die to get to the other side
What advantage has it that a phone doesn’t have an audio jack? Don’t they realise that it take up more space if you remove the audio jack because you need to carry arround 2 adapters?
