UMIDIGI Crystal will have the latest in-cell Sharp display

UMIDIGI Crystal

The promised $99 priced bezel-less UMIDIGI Crystal is certainly among the most antcipated Xiaomi Mi Mix clones and today we got some more news and pictures tied to this phone. Seems like the model will be using the latest in-cell Sharp displays so no OLED screens like similar pieces from the competition.

Judging from the pictures the screen-to-body ratio should reach almost 90 % and the Sharp screen will have a thin layer of glass, which is allegedly the Corning Gorilla Glass 4. UMIDIGI is a long-term collaborator witn Sharp so it makes sense they are supplying the latest generation of their in-cell displays. New screens combine the LCD and touch sensor together, thus freeing the space and enabling lighter and thinner displays. And with the Crystal and its futuristic looks it’s apparently the proper way to go.

Umi bought a dead stock lot of Sharp LCD. They were rejected by a first tier brand and hence they are using those. Watch out for quality issues!

Had the issue with weird blue-ish circle in middle of the display on UMI MAX. Anyway phone died after 6 months of use by itself. There were some auto-touch on the right bottom corner which disabled further usage of the phone. Wife’s one ended when 10 KG daugher stepped on the display. It were first and last phones from UMI. Poor quality, poor SW support…
