Razer in the early hours of yesterday released the kernel source code for its first smartphone – the Razer Phone. The source file which is available on the company’s website is available in four different builds. There are builds 853 and 851 under the MR1 label and builds 8822 and 813 under the production label all of which amounts to 138MB in size.
For the uninformed, the kernel is that portion of the Google Android OS in charge of input and output requests from hardware. It acts as an interface between your device’s software and the hardware and is thus an integral part of any mobile handset.
While this news may not be of particular importance to the end phone users, it is a sort of welcome update for hackers/ developers as it provides them with a platform on which they can create custom ROMs, which would then be made available to end users for download them from the Internet.

The device is available in some countries around the World with a price tag ranging from $699-£699.99 (around AU$890) SIM-free.
