South Korean manufacturing giant, Samsung, has been working on the Android Oreo update for some of its select devices. As of now, its latest flagships, Galaxy S8 and S8+, are testing the Oreo’s performance while some other older devices are in the queue to receive this update. Now, reports have it that three years old Samsung Galaxy S6 could be getting the Oreo update in what would be its last major update. This information was made public by Samsung’s technical support group, but we know that in the hierarchy of the company, this group is further down the ladder thus there are still some miles to travel before this information is authenticated.

This is a good news to Galaxy S6 users because there are only a few manufacturers that pay attention to devices older than two years. Speculations also have it that the Oreo update will arrive the Galaxy S8/S8+ and S6 concomitantly. The former is scheduled to receive the Oreo update by February. It is tough to believe that the Oreo update will arrive the Galaxy S6 in February because there are numerous newer units on the queue to receive this update. February is just a few weeks from now so we will have to keep our fingers crossed till we verify the authenticity of this information.
As a reminder, the Galaxy S6 is powered by an Octa-core Exynos 7420 processor coupled with 3GB of RAM and 32/64/128GB of non-expandable storage. It is equipped with a Corning Gorilla Glass 4 protected 5.1-inch Super AMOLED capacitive touchscreen with a 1440 x 2560 pixels resolution and 70.7% screen-to-body ratio. In the camera department, it comes with a 16MP rear camera supported by a 5MP selfie snapper. The lights of this smartphone are kept on by a non-removable 2500mAh battery.
