Xiaomi Suspends Android Oreo Roll Out To Mi A1 Again

Last year, Xiaomi and Google, officially released the Xiaomi Mi A1 (Xiaomi Mi 5X international version), and this is also Xiaomi’s first phone to participate in the Android One project. When this smartphone was released, everyone was looking forward to this device because Android One should have a better update experience. However, this has not been the case. Recent reports suggest that Xiaomi has suspended the Mi A1 Oreo update for the second time in as many weeks. Recall that about two weeks ago, we reported that Xiaomi has suspended the Oreo roll out to Mi A1 and that this update will be released in “a few weeks”. True to its words, Xiaomi did commence the release of this update about a week ago. But now, the company has now halted the progress of this update release.

Was this not supposed to be running stock Android? How can there be bugs that Xiaomi has to fix?

Drivers and such. You can’t simply compile the Android for any phone and run it without a problems. There are HW specific components. That’s why the Android is rarely updated on the released smartphones to the new major version. Project Treble aims to solve this.

Having been running Oreo since it was available – both the Dec and Jan security patch levels) I have had almost no issues, so I’d be interested to know what these “bugs” are. The only issues I have had is TalkBack crashes and loading opening Instagram seems to cripple the phone performance and render the capacitive navy buttons useless. Other than that I would say it runs very well. (posted from a MI A1 on Oreo)
