It’s beginning to look like 2013 is going to be the year for low-cost quad-core phones, thanks largely to the imminent release of Mediatek’s MT6589 CPU, but which brands are planning MT6589 phone next month?
Zopo Leader Max
The Zopo Leader Max will become the new flagship model for Zopo and will boast such goodies as a 5.7 inch 1080p HD display, 2GB RAM, either a 8 or 12 mega-pixel rear camera, 2 mega-pixel front camera and of course an MT6589 CPU. While Zopo haven’t gone on record about any details, it is expected the Leader Max will get Android 4.1 Jelly Bean and could cost as little as 1600 Yuan ($256).
Neo NO3

The Neo N03 is also expected to make an appearance in December, and will take over flagship duties from the popular N02. Like the Zopo Leader Max, the Neo N03 get’s a powerful quad-core 1.3Ghz MT6589 CPU but with a 5.3 inch display. 1GB RAM, 4GB ROM, Android 4.0.4 and a 12 mega-pixel rear camera are the only other details we’ve heard on the grapevine.
TCL ??
TCL’s entry in to the MT6589 arena is still shrouded by mystery, but the brand are expected to be launching a new phone which could be seen as early as next week!
Lenovo MT6589
Lenovo’s entry in the low-cost quad-core market looks to be more price conscious phone and not a high rolling flagship model. A 4.5 inch 960 x 540 resolution screen isn’t as sexy as the Zopo’s 1080 model, and the 1.2 GHz CPU won’t be as fast as the one in the NEO N03 but if you want a phone from a larger, better known brand the Lenovo could be the choice for you.

I hope they have some phones with this chip for $180. I don’t need a 5″+ screen, a 4.5″ is plenty enough for me, maybe even 4.0″ would be enough, i’d rather have a cheaper phone.

lets hope for less price but not expecting from jiayu as they are very slow in delivering the products according to demand .
Funny…Lenovo has MT6589n and almost 10.000 points on AnTuTu. Newman N2 has MTK6577 (?) and almost 13.000 on AnTuTu. LOL

come on dude ! newman n2 has samsung exynos quadcore processor not mtk 6577 processor .
The Samsung Exynos Quad also uses the “Mali-400 MP” GPU, which, in it’s current configuration, is up to 45% faster than the single-core “PowerVR SGX 544” GPU, to be used on the MediaTek MT6589.

Zopo should have simply updated their 5.3″ ZOPO ZP900 Leader with a Quad-Core CPU, 2GB RAM and Jelly Bean 4.1.
5.7″ phone is wayyyy too big, imo !!!

At $300.00, they’d be pushing it.
The Google Nexus 4 is $300.00 to $350.00, and it’s performance is above and beyond what the new Zopo phone could ever offer.
Now the chinese pals are gonna have to lower the cost of their “top-end” (for the region) phones even more, and that’s great news for everyone.

The GPU’s capabilities defines how smooth the user’s experience is going to be.
The number of main CPU cores comes second (multi-task, etc.).

Quadcore phones and large phones are all very nice. But for me network connectivity is just as important. A mobile phone without universal global UMTS coverage is useless to me. So far the performance of Chinese phones is rather bad in this regard.
It would be nice to see this chip powering a 10″ FullHD tablet. Finally a cheap but powerful tablet with GPS and 3G support.
