When testing a smartphone, we usually pay attention to the benchmark results showing how fast it runs, what graphics experience it provides, what a gaming performance it shows, etc. But these tests should change with the appearance of AI on phones. That’s not a secret the Kirin 970 is the world’s first mobile chip with an artificial intelligence. Moreover, it debuted on the Huawei Mate 10 Pro, which provides an excellent performance. And while many are comparing this chip with other high-end SoCs, and prove it’s not better than the rest, Huawei is working on other projects trying to involve it in solutions of more important problems. Yesterday, Huawei UK published a video via its Youtube channel showing how the Mate 10 Pro is used to drive a car.

Thanks to the NPU the Huawei Mate 10 Pro can identify pets and do a maneuver to avoid them.

Gizchina News of the week

The Kirin 970 uses the most advanced TSMC 10nm process manufacturing and there are over 5.5 billion transistors. Huawei has chosen the energy-efficient heterogeneous computing architecture to greatly enhance the AI power. It’s a specially designed HiAI mobile computing architecture with the first built-in independent NPU (Neural Network Processing Unit). Thanks to it, the image recognition speed can reach 2005/min. It’s the highest rate in the industry. This feature has been used to drive a car and recognize animals when driving. As we can watch in the video, the Porsche Panamera is used a test car, and the Huawei Mate 10 Pro that controls the driving is capable of recognizing the dog and do a maneuver easily.
