Amazon acquires Ring for nearly $1 billion


Earlier today, Amazon and Ring – The company that developed the Ring Doorbell, an IoT device that consists in an internet-connected doorbell that offers custom life visual and audible effects at any place where you choose to place the device.

According to reports, an agreement was made between both companies and Amazon is now the owner of Ring in a deal that could reach the whopping amount of $1 billion. Although specific details of the deal haven’t made public yet, we don’t expect that the Amazon new deal will affect the Ring business, the company should act by their own for a time, of course with some additional investment coming from the share of Amazon’s name and Prime services.

The company made a statement to GeeWire saying that they are working hard to bring a new vision for safer neighborhoods. With the Ring solution, Amazon will be able to push forward the new technology to more houses where the company delivers to. Currently, the biggest Ring offer is a paid Video Recording service. Just imagine if Amazon decides to offer this feature for any Ring Doorbell owner that is subscribed to the Prime plan.

The retail company is joining Ring in no better time since the company unveiled a set of new home products that focuses security during CES 2018. With this acquisition, Amazon will be able to expand the Amazon Echo features and turn it into a total smart home controller.
