Vivo X20 Plus UD Passes Scratch Test

VIVO X20 Plus UD

Popular gadget stress test channel JerryRigEverything put the Vivo X20 Plus UD to the test on his YouTube channel. The first phone on the market to feature an in-display fingerprint scanner, the X20 Plus UD is the only phone that has the new biometric technology, Clear ID.

Since the fingerprint scanner lies right underneath the display, it implies that any scratch or damage to the screen would lead to crippling of the fingerprint scanner. Surprisingly, the X20 Plus UD held its own against the various scratch tests it was subjected to by Jerry. In the scratch test, the fingerprint scanner continued to work flawlessly even after multiple scratches. The display stopped working when shattered, so the fingerprint scanner could not be tested in that scenario.

The Ivo X20 Plus UD survived the other tests too. Since the fingerprint scanner now is a part of the display, the shattering of the same might render the scanner useless, leading to the phone requiring a complete replacement. And the display might not come cheap. A physical fingerprint scanner provides a certain amount of modularity when it comes to repairing the phone but the in-display fingerprint scanner reduces the number of hardware, this leading to thinner designs. Both the approaches have their pros and cons. Which one do you prefer? Let us know in the comments below!
