Xiaomi Releases Android Oreo Kernel Source Code For Xiaomi Mi 6


It appears that Xiaomi is now in the habit of releasing its Kernel source codes to the public. In the recent past, the company lacks behind in releasing such information but after the issues that plagued the Android Oreo release to Xiaomi Mi A1, Xiaomi has now released Kernel source code for Android Oreo release to Xiaomi Redmi 4X and most recently Xiaomi Mi 6. The Mi 6 started receiving the Oreo update about two weeks ago.

Many have accused Xiaomi of violating Linux kernel’s GPLv2 license but now, the company is retracing its steps. This week kernel source code for Xiaomi Mi 6 means that owners can now enjoy an Android Open Source Project-based Android Oreo ROM.

In other news, upcoming Xiaomi Mix 2S and Mi Max 3 which would be equipped with Android 8.0 should be able to boot a generic build of AOSP. This is possible as a result of its support for Project Treble.
