As of now, many must have forgotten the name “Jiayu” and you wouldn’t blame them, the last time anyone heard from the company is 2016 when it released the JiaYu S4. Jiayu Mobile was founded in 2009 and up till 2013, it was booming but from 2014, rumors of its death started springing up from time to time. Recently, we got a tip from one of our followers which showed that JiaYu German online store now does more promotions for Umidigi than it does for its own JiaYu products. Also, the company has deleted its Facebook page. All these beg the question “Is JiaYu completely dead?”
Our investigations revealed that the company’s Spanish site does similar promotions for Vernee and Leagoo products just like its German site. Also, its JiaYu Espana Facebook page contains information on Vernee. Furthermore, there was a huge crash of prices of JiaYu products on its online store last month. For instance, the price of JiaYu S3 was reduced from $249 to $99 which is about 60% off. It now appears that the company is just trying to offload whatever it has left in stock before it completely shuts down.
Gizchina News of the week
Looking through JiaYu’s online store, the few comments that dropped had a response from the company which shows that the company is still quite active (at least whoever is handling its online services is). So for those who wish to know the status of JiaYu, it is still ALIVE but it is definitely a sinking ship. There is a strand of vein holding its head and neck together but a man is not dead until he is confirmed DEAD.
What exactly happened to JiaYu is still a mystery. The JiaYu S3 which was released in 2015 was a hit and many were looking forward to the S3+. When everyone thought that JiaYu was dead, the company sprang back to life with JiaYu S3+ in late 2015. But nothing serious has been heard of them since then.
It is a real pity. The devices had quite a following, with Roms released by the community. My G4S still works a charm.
I am still waiting for the phoenix to rise. True that, a man is not dead until CSI do their job 🙂
Hope this article catches the attention of someone who believes in Jiayu.
Ah yes, I remember JiaYu S3+, very popular phone back then. Im pretty sure they are dead now unfortunately. But who knows, maybe they will come back to take on Xiaomi and others 🙂 I wish them the best
I used a Jiayu S3 for 3 years … and it’s still a pretty responsive device. I have had multiple phones before but I used the Jiayu S3 for the longest time. There simply was no reason for me to upgrade.
Now I’m on a Lenovo P2, but if Jiayu still made phones I would have bought a new Jiayu phone. Best Chinese brand. I still hope they will rise again.
I was one of the firsts with a G2. Then obviously G3 and G4-series followed. After the G4S I explored other options, like the other seemingly gone ones: Neomobile, FAEA and Kingzone.
I then grew tired of all the Elephone/Ulefone/UMI models, that were overhyped release renders, underwhelming and by the time they actually shipped after massive delays a new model would be announced again and you would be behind the curve and support for you device would end soon… the ZTE Nubia Z9 brought things into perspective, forward thinking, gorgeous design and quality, awesome specs, great camera. Of course there was a price attached, but it was well worth it for all those years of fun. Now I have a Huawei P10 Plus and I’d be interested in getting its P20 Pro successor or another ZTE Nubia (just the Z11 and Z17 weren’t my thing, they need to go back to that Z9 success).
Jiayu was really a cult brand back in the day, it was a small one, but really strived to improve model after model, not trying to scam users like some other rivals did (and still do). It’s a brand which deserved to make it big, but unfortunately it never happened.
I don’t care what anyone says, JiaYu were the undisputed kings of the obscure Chinese market back in their heyday. I still remember when they launched the G4, and everyone went “NO FULL HD? ARGHHGHGH”, which worked out because the MTK6589 wasn’t nearly powerful enough to handle FHD displays well.
Then there was the G3, which was one of the best devices of its time. The JiaYu S3, which is still the best MTK6752 device and that chipset was bonkers good for its price. They really began to fall after the S1, which was their Snapdragon phone, failed to take off. Then the S2 happened, which brought them further down. Shit, I miss JiaYu.
I was proud user of Jiayu G4, truly I miss them too as in there times they used to be better than UMI by then!
I thought it was already dead. I’m still using my G4T phone, after more than 4 years…
JiaYu doesn’t exist anymore. The Chinese company was taken over by the German JiaYu partner. They planned getting the brand back to life and have been working on a device based on the Elephone P9000 OEM platform which was never released. After that they started selling devices of other brands until finally they stopped selling the old JiaYu devices. As far as I am informed there are no plans for a revival.
That is the most detailed information we can possibly get. Thank you
