Xiaomi Mi A1 discontinued in India ahead of Mi A2 launch

Reports reaching GizChina suggest that Xiaomi’s first Android One smartphone – the Xiaomi Mi A1 has been discontinued in the India market. That’s a pretty reliable sign that the rumored Mi 6X is imminent. Welcome the Xiaomi Mi A2 aka Xiaomi Mi 6X.

Clearly, sources in and outside of India’s New Delhi have it that the company last made deliveries of the Mi A1 a couple of months back and has yet to restock its partners in India. The device might still be available in some stores in India, but clearly no more available to buy from official partners and even on the official Mi India website where you currently only have the option to sign up to be notified when it is back in stock,  which most likely won’t happen.

Gizchina News of the week

While we clearly can not say why the company has chosen to discontinue the Mi A1, there are speculations that this might not be unconnected with the incoming Mi A2. Xiaomi has already scheduled a launch event for April 25 where it might unveil the Xiaomi Mi 6X, which will be sold outside of China as the Xiaomi Mi A2.

We are not certain if the Mi A2 will boot pure Android OS out of the box, we do know that the device is said to offer some AI features embedded in an undisclosed Octa-core processor. It will pack a 5.99” display with a 2160 x 1080 resolution, a 20MP front facing camera, dual rear cameras, 2910mAh battery and is said to come in varieties of colors including Black, Rose Gold, Gold, White, Blue, Red, Pink, Grey, and Silver.
