In December 2017, Meizu made an architectural adjustment to its existing Meizu, Charm Blue, and Flyme Business Units and then added a Foreign Business Unit and the Accessories Business Unit. Now, the company is in the middle of another restructuring. Today, news broke that Meizu Technology issued an internal e-mail last night, to once again effect restructuring at its helm of affairs. Meizu senior vice president, Yang Lan, continues to be responsible for marketing while Meizu senior vice president and president of the Charm Blue Division, Li Nan, is now responsible for sales.
Meizu’s Chairman and CEO, Huang Zhang, still remains but the most important changes and the core concerns of this adjustment are still Yang Lan and Li Nan. While Yang Lan will be the market center CMO, Li Nan will handle the marketing center CSO and both of them will report to Huang Zhang.
Gizchina News of the week
According to the job descriptions of Li Nan and Yang Lan, it appears that Meizu and Charm Blue divisions have been merged. The Sales Center under the control of Li Nan oversees the overall management of Meizu and Charm Blue smartphone products as well as the company’s domestic sales while the Market Center under the control of Yang Lan is responsible for Meizu and Charm Blue smartphone brand promotion, marketing, media and other public relations business. This is actually a reintegration of the two brands with different portfolios assigned Yang Lan and Li Nan.
Another important aspect of this restructuring is that there is no mention of Meizu Technology president, Bai Yongxiang. There have been rumors that Mr. Bai is already retired but this is yet to be verified.
