It now appears that the Xiaomi Mi 8 will be a reality. This morning, the box of this smartphone surfaced online and while we were still digesting that exposure, we now have a view of the front panel. No doubt, this smartphone comes with a notch which is not so popular in the Android camp. However, the notch on the Mi 8 seems necessary because it bears at least seven sensors and this enables it to use the 3D structured light technology. This tech is the most relevant talking point of this device because it will bring an iPhone-X like face recognition feature. Thus users can use their faces to authenticate financial transactions as well as other authentications.

Looking at the notch on the front panel, we have the infrared lens, front camera, proximity sensor, ambient light sensor, flood illuminator, Dot projector, microphone, and speaker. The integration of all these sensors on the front panel makes the notch absolutely necessary. This will be the first time that Xiaomi will be releasing a notched phone as the company has always favoured a tri-bezeless design just as we saw on the Xiaomi Mi MIX 2 and Mi MIX 2S. Another talking point of this smartphone is its on-screen fingerprint sensor but talks of this feature have been overtaken by the 3D structured light technology.
