Over the past years, the camera quality of smartphones has tremendously improved and it makes users more eager to take pictures. Smartphone users love for images has made DxOMark, which provides phone camera quantitative scores, increasingly famous. Many smartphone manufacturers have used the DxOMark score as a measure of its camera quality and have even used it to promote its products.
This morning, Lei Jun took to Weibo and said that camera evaluation is not only an objective factor, there are many subjective factors which makes the evaluation very difficult. DxOMark is a third-party evaluation agency for the camera industry and has certain reference value.
Gizchina News of the week
Recently, Xiaomi released the Xiaomi Mi 8 and it was exciting to see that this smartphone surpassed the iPhone X, Apple’s best flagship on DxOMark. Lei Jun also revealed that the MIX 2S uses the same camera module and it will soon be upgraded to the Xiaomi Mi 8 camera firmware.
It is interesting to note that Xiaomi Mi 8 scored 105 points for still images and 99 points in total which places it second to Huawei P20 Pro, HTC U12+ Huawei P20 and Samsung S9 Plus which are all on the same level.
Xiaomi Mi 8 uses the same dual rear 12MP camera as the Xiaomi MIX 2S. The main camera is a Sony IMX363 sensor with a 1.4-micron unit and an aperture of F/1.8. Based on this hardware, after the optimization and adjustment of the Xiaomi Mi 8 firmware, the camera quality becomes much better that Xiaomi Mi MIX 2S but the CEO himself has promised that the Xiaomi Mi MIX 2S firmware will be upgraded soon and it is worth the wait.
I hope, they’ll upgrade note 5 firmware too.
Don’t dream, the devices are on a completely different level.
Price-wise yes but the camera sensor isntalled in note (S5K2L7) isn’t much worse than Mix 2s. Nokia 8 has the same sensor and costs x4-x5 as much. It can be very good potentially.
Good news, shame about the GPS.
