Reports have been flooding in with consumers complaining about display issues they are facing on Sony’s Xperia XZ1 and XZ2 range of smartphones. Apparently, if the screen is touched or rubbed frequently, lines and dots appear on the screen. The lines tend to disappear after a while, but it’s still counts as a fault on the manufacturer’s fault to provide a display that is as premium as the price a consumer pays for it.
The issue not not limited to just a few smartphones. Complaints have flooded Sony’s official forums and XDA Developers. The XZ1 is not exactly an “old” phone to be facing such problems. Even the new XZ2 range is plagued with this issue.
Addressing the error, Sony gave a statement,
Gizchina News of the week
“Sony Mobile is committed to providing the highest standard of product quality and customer service for all of our products. Due to the characteristic of the display, you may see stripe patterns as a result of electrostatic in some models. This is not a functional defect and usually the stripe patterns fade away as the electrostatic disappears.”
In short, “Deal with it”. What Sony failed to understand here is that if anyone pays a premium amount for a premium device, they expect premium build and features along with the assurance that such problems won’t arise, and even if they do, they would be addressed in a proper manner. But looks like Sony just does not want to do anything about it. Hopefully Sony will look into the issue and provide a solid solution.
People need to understand that Sony has shifted away from smartphone business. Every 6 month they throw a slightly updated Xperia on the market to satisfy and rip off their loyal fanboys and girls mainly in Japan. They use their smartphones to demonstrate the capabilities of their new camera sensors, a sector where Sony currently makes more money than with selling phones. They keep the newest sensor for a couple of month for themselves to give their fans a reason to cheer about their phones and then other OEMs can have it.
Sony even admitted that they will no longer focus on Smartphone business, but on what comes after the smartphone era.
Never boiiiiiiiii! Compact phone for life!
Good luck with that! I was contemplating on getting one but thankfully decided against it.
