Qualcomm, the American chipset maker has just expanded two of its most popular mobile platforms – the Snapdragon 600 and 400 tiers with the announcement of the Qualcomm Snapdragon 632, 439, 429 system-on-chips introducing significant upgrades over the current 626, 430 and 425, respectively.
The Socs which Qualcomm says is positioned to offer better performance, better battery life, more efficient designs, impressive graphics and artificial intelligence (AI) capabilities are expected to end up in mid-range and budget devices later in the year.
Starting off with the most capable of the trio, the Snapdragon 632 is based on the 14nm process technology, is equipped with a new Adreno 506 GPU, X9 LTE modem and Qualcomm’s 8 Kryo 250 CPU cores, which further breaks down into 4 performance cores and 4 efficiency-focused cores each running at 1.8GHz. It is supposed to be about 40% faster than the SD 626 with support for up to FHD+ resolution, up to 24MP for a single camera or dual cameras at 13MP each, giving OEMs multiple options for device design.
Gizchina News of the week
Snapdragon 439 and 429
The Snapdragon 439 and Snapdragon 429 both of which are Octa-core and Quad-core SoCs according to Qualcomm are designed to help deliver “popular mobile experiences for the mass market, price-sensitive consumers.” And while both retains the AI capabilities of the more capable 632, they are however based on the 12nm advanced FinFET process technology.
The Snapdragon 439 features four Cortex A53 cores clocked at1.95GHz for performance and another 4 at 1.45GHz for efficiency which should result in a performance uplift of 25% over the Snapdragon 430. The SD 439 also offer up to 25 percent less power usage. The 429 is a mere quad-core unit, with four performance cores working at 1.95GHz and Adreno 504 GPU. The 439 supports FHD+ displays and 12MP single or 8+8MP dual cameras, while the 429 maxes out at HD+ and 16MP or 8+8MP cameras.
All three SoCs support dual SIM with dual VoLTE connections and should make their first debut in phones or tablets in the coming months.
