Android 8.1 Oreo update canceled for Mi A1 due to sms bug

As we reported earlier, Xiaomi a few days back started pushing out the Android 8.1 Oreo update to its first and only Android One phone the – Xiaomi Mi A1. While the update comes with quite a few improvements, it does bring some bugs with it too, so we at that time advised you keep away from pushing the update button.

Specifically, the update introduced a bug that wipes your entire SMS history whenever you swipe away the messages app from the recent apps screen, while the second reported bug causes SafetyNet to fail. SafetyNet provides APIs that allow developers to check whether a device was tampered with, runs a custom ROM, or infected with low-level malware.

Now, Xiaomi in a very swift reaction has decided to discontinue the update. We expect the company to work and roll out the update that will fix the bugs in a matter of time since the Mi A2 is expected to launch soon, but the company has yet to confirm when to expect such update, and pending the arrival, we still recommend you take a backup of all your SMSes to avoid losing all the conversations and other relevant information.
