Microsoft today added the most affordable product in its Surface tablet portfolio yet, the Surface Go. While you could confuse that with the affordable Android version of Go, it does have a thing in common with its Android Go counterparts. It comes at a rock bottom price of $399. Although, you’ll have to shell out extra for the stylus and cover keyboard. Pre-orders for the Surface Go start on July 10 and shipping starts on August 2.
The Surface Go has a 10-inch 3:2 (1800 x 1200) PixelDensity multi-touch display with thick bezels. The tablet is powered by Intel 7th gen Pentium Gold 4415Y processor. It has 4GB of RAM and 64GB of eMMC flash storage which is the base model. The top-end model comes with 8GB of RAM and 128GB of SSD storage.

The Surface Go s also the company’s most compact tablet yet with 1.15 pounds weigh and 8.3 mm thickness. It is also the first Surface device with USB-C 3.1 same as on the Macbook Pro although Microsoft’s custom connector is still there. Surface Go has a 5MP front camera with support for 1080p videos and there’s a 8MP rear camera that has HD recording.
In terms of design, it does look very much like the Surface Pro from the magnesium alloy structure to the kickstand. However, it is not as powerful an runs Windows 10 S. Microsoft only has Wi-Fi versions for now but LTE variants are expected later on. This is a product that Microsoft easily aimed at competing with the iPads and Chromebooks out there in the US.
