MediaTek recently announced its revenue performance in June. The monthly revenue reached NT$21.06 billion ($690 million). The accumulated revenue for the first six months was NT$110.135 billion ($3.6 billion), down 3.53% year-on-year.
In addition, the company’s second-quarter revenue reached NT$60.48 billion ($1.98 billion), an increase of 21.8% from the previous quarter. What’s more interesting it exceeded the previous forecast of the company’s earnings of NT$59.6 billion ($1.95 billion).
Of course, we understand MediaTek’s second-quarter good performance is related to the peak season of mobile chip demand. Plus, the company has launched its first AI mobile platform in face of the Helio P60 that was adopted by many smartphones makers.

If you remember, this chip debuted at the MWC in February this year. It is based on TSMC’s 12nm process and features an 8-core Big.Little architecture, using four Cortex A73 cores and four Cortex A53 cores with a clock speed of 2.0GHz. The CPU performance is increased by 70% if compared to the previous model of the P23.
In addition, the chip integrates the Mali-G72 MP3 GPU with a frequency of 800MHz and a 70% performance increase (compared to the P23). This platform also supports up to 8GB of LPDDR4X-1800 memory, flash supports up to eMMC 5.1 and UFS 2.1. At the same time, the integration is based on the Edge AI platform artificial intelligence unit APU (AI processing unit). Its comprehensive performance is close to the Snapdragon 660.
Looking forward to the third quarter, MediaTek maintains an optimistic forecast. But some insiders believe that the smartphone market will continue decreasing. OPPO and other big companies are interested in diversifying risks and dividing some orders into Qualcomm. However, in the long run, in addition to mobile chips, MediaTek will continue to grow steadily in areas such as Wi-Fi, power management ICs, automotive electronics and the Internet of Things.
