Earlier this month, we reported an unknown smartphone going by the name of Xiaomi Pocophone as having received the FCC certification. Before that XDA developers found firmware files that hinted at the presence of an India-specific Xiaomi phone named Beryllium. Today the alleged Pocophone has appeared in a hands-on video.

The phone in the video aligns with the design that appeared in the FCC documents. It follows the design of the Mi8, with a notch up top. The size of the notch hints at the presence of facial recognition tech. The phone sports a reasonable amount of chin, nothing out of the ordinary. The back sports a dual camera setup that’s vertically aligned, in the middle as opposed to the usual iPhone X-style setup. There is no sight of a fingerprint reader anywhere on the phone. This bolsters the idea of facial recognition being the primary mode of security. The phone in the video has a blue colored back, maybe one of many colors.
From what I could discern from the video, the Xiaomi Pocophone will sport 6GB of RAM coupled with 128GB of onboard storage. It’ll come loaded with Android 8.1 Oreo with MIUI 9 on top. The launch and other specifics are still in the dark.
