Tomorrow, July 19th, Xiaomi’s next generation of giant screen phones – the Xiaomi Max 3 – will be officially released. As you may have already read from our previous article, Mi Max 3’s specs have already been fully unveiled by Xiaomi’s president himself, with the only unknown factor left being pricing. About that we only have a “1_99 Yuan” poster which suggests the phone will cost less than 2000 Yuan ($300) and definitely more than 1000 Yuan ($150).
Today, Xiaomi’s official Weibo account released another teaser with the words “a large-screen mobile phone with one hand”.
Translated to “real” English that means the Mi Max 3, albeit sporting a massive 6.9-inch display, will still be easy to use with a single hand. Now, we aren’t sure if they’re trying to say that the smartphone is overall very compact thanks to the 18:9 display aspect ratio which should make the phone narrower, or they adopted some new software tricks that will ease one-hand operations. To actually find out what they mean we’ll have to wait for the official launch happening tomorrow.
Gizchina News of the week
For those who haven’t been in the loop with Mi Max 3 rumors and leaks, here’s a quick recap. The smartphone will be equipped with a Snapdragon 636, 4GB/6GB of RAM and 64GB/128GB of internal storage.
It’ll sport a massive 5500mAh capacity battery, 12MP + 5MP rear shooters with AI, an 8MP front camera with soft light self-timer lens, support AI face unlock, AI voice assistant, and it’ll be available in three colors: Dream Gold, Meteorite Black and Deep Sea Blue.
Easy to use with one hand, what a joke. I suppose you use a tablet with one hand too. No way is this size of device usable with one hand. I can see this thing as a substitute tablet to use at home but I would never want to carry such a massive thing around with me as my daily driver.
You can use it with one hand but if you use your belly as the holder, put a middle finger on top and operate with your thumb. It’s not hard I wrote this that way on bigger Mi Max. It first in most jeans pockets but it is not pleasant to carry around like that I use man’s purse in the summer & jacket pocket elsewhere. It’s good for reading, multimedia, games and your eyes as you can read comfortably from bigger distance.
Do you have to have a pot belly to use it your way? I like to read on phones too but my 5.99 inch screen is definitely big enough, thanks. I don’t play multimedia games. If I wanted to read on a bigger screen I’d buy an 8 inch tablet, which are generally cheaper than all but budget phones.
Well it’s only comfortable that way. You can put it elsewhere but it needs to have support from side down. Of course you can use one hand mode & shrink the display up to 4.5″ but I tend not to use it that way. 6″ 16:9 is upper limit that is holdable with one hand at least with mine & I do have a rather bigger one’s. I bought the tin can (Mi Max first gen) for overlay spec’s, battery and for a rather good price some almost two years ago. Bought it to play with it and as a rather one device to replace couple of them, among other & tablet. It whose a pleasant journey especially getting rid of the MIUI so I will probably buy a Max 3 Pro if it comes with an Snapdragon 710 to continue the saga. Tablet’s are rather dead this day’s & I hate to use couple of devices & constantly sync between them so this whose & still is a cross comfortable enough solution for me at least.
Best regards.
Im pretty sure even Xiaomi knows how huge that phone is, what kind of giant hands would you need to use it with one ? I doubt you can even comfortably hold it in just one hand. But what else would you expect from almost 7 inch phone. And to think few years ago 5 inch phones were considered too big haha.
I guess that you could use it with one had only with the one hand mode.
Just now I am writing this reply on my Mi Max Prime which is bigger than the mi max 3 but I am using it with one hand.. I have average sized hands. You can’t compare to surf the net or watch videos on bigger screens as compared to smaller screens. I am waiting for this monster since long time… 😀 😂
