An image that was posted on Weibo by Kumamoto technology might be the first proof of the existence of the Oppo R17. The image is apparently from a media event that took place in China. The image shows a stage flanked by the Oppo R17 banners. Oppo has probably started teasing the phone in their home country.
Gizchina News of the week
The oppo R15 and R15 Pro were launched in March this year and the R17 and R17 Pro will likely succeed them. This is the absolute first report regarding the R17. We do not know whether it will sport a GB or 10GB of RAM. Kumamoto Technology had taken to Weibo earlier to claim that there will be a 10GB smartphone coming by the end of this year from either Oppo or Vivo. Forget the R17 for a second and let’s talk about 10Gb of RAM. Firstly, just because it’s possible does not mean it’s needed. More than three-quarters of the smartphones on the market are capped at 4GB RAM and they do not have any problem working on 4GB or less RAM unless you have 2GB RAM and you are running Samsung’s heavy UI on top. Or any non-stock UI for that matter.
So we can debunk the rumour that there will be a 10GB RAM phone by the end of this year. As far as the Oppo R17 is concerned, if it has been teased in China, we are bound to come across some more reports in the future. Stay tuned!
