Samsung Galaxy Tab A 10.5 with 7,300mAh battery and Kids mode announced

Samsung a few hours ago announced the availability of two tablets – the premium Galaxy Tab S4 with S Pen, native Dex, and the Galaxy Tab A 10.5. And while the Tab S4 with top-notch specs is majorly aimed at taking on Apple’s iPad Pro line which is due for a refresh soon, the Galaxy Tab A 10.5 is just a basic tablet aimed at a broader audience.

Although the Tab S4 and Tab A 10.5 look nearly identical with the same screen size, the Tab A 10.5 lacks virtually all the bells and whistles of the flagship Tab S4. For a starter, the Tab A 10.5 has ditched the S4 OLED panel for a more budget-friendly 1080p LCD panel. Also, the device is without any form of biometric authentication, lacks the keyboard cover, native DeX support, but does have the same four speakers with Dolby Atmos, as well as that 16:10 aspect ratio ideal for watching movies.

Under the hood, the Galaxy Tab A 10.5 has ditched the S4 SD 835 for the mid-range Snapdragon 450 processor coupled with 3GB of RAM and 32GB of storage. It gets the same 7,300mAh battery, but without fast charging, and on the photographic front, the Tab A 10.5 uses an 8MP rear and 5MP front-facing cameras.

Samsung is marketing the device as a good entertainment device fit for both kids and the general family which is why it has the Kids mode on board.

  • Qualcomm Snapdragon 450 chipset (octa-core, 1.8GHz)
  • 3GB of RAM and 32GB of internal storage, plus a microSD card slot
  • 8MP rear camera with auto-focus and flash, 5MP front-facing camera
  • USB Type-C (USB 2.0) port for charging
  • Android 8.1
  • LTE Cat 6 support

Available in blue, black and gray, the Galaxy Tab A 10.5 is priced at  €330 for the Wi-Fi on variant and  €390 for the LTE version. It is tipped to go on sale on August 24.
