Gaming Notebook: 22 Years Experience Gives Lenovo An Edge Over Xiaomi?


On August 3, Lenovo released its latest game e-sports starting at 6599 Yuan ($967). At the same time, it also launched a new game console saver blade 9000IIJDG commemorative edition (only 180 units worldwide), priced at 14,999 yuan ($2196). The new Lenovo gaming laptop is equipped with an eight-generation Core i5-8300H/i7-8750H, with 8GB RAM, 128GB SSD+1TB HDD, GTX 1050Ti/GTX 1060 graphics card. In addition, it uses a 15.6-inch 144Hz e-sports display with triple narrow frame design, 72% NTSC color gamut, and an 84% screen-to-body ratio.

Zhang Hua, vice president of Lenovo Group and general manager of China’s consumer business, responded to some questions recently. Some reporters said that Xiaomi released a similar gaming laptop at almost the same time with Lenovo and they called for Mr. Zhang’s comments. He said

“Lenovo is a 34-year old company. Its first notebook was launched in 1996. It has been 22 years since then. So we have 22 years of research and development to guarantee.” Zhang Hua said.

Zhang Hua said that more companies in the industry are welcome to enter gaming laptop field which is beneficial to the development of the industry. But at the same time, he also stressed that Lenovo’s products are solid and it took not eight, ten, or twenty years of work but more.     What gives the Lenovo the real advantage is a distribution & service network it has over Xiaomi and when it comes to relatively expensive laptops that means a lot. 20+ years of experience doesn’t mean much. A reminder to the Zhang Hua how Lenovo managed to brake free only after purchasing IBM laptop lineups less than 10 years ago and how those lineups still represent their breed & water.

    I’m just in doubt getting a mi gaming laptop because of the warranty but build quality is pretty good.

    in the other parts of world, the lenovo laptop is called y530, and in germany the i7 1050ti version costs 1100€
    for that price with warranty, i don´t think xiaomi stands a chance in europe
