Roland Quandt – the notorious leakster who has proved to be a reliable source of tech related scoops the past few years, shared some of his wisdom recently, regarding the next chipsets that are ready to come out from Mediatek’s R&D headquarters.
Gizchina News of the week
According to a recent tweet of his, the Taiwanese company is already working on the successors of their Helio P60 SoC, but they plan to skip ten numbers before this happens, and unveil their Helio P80 and Helio P90 chipsets in the coming months. These two SoC’s will be much more powerful (yet energy efficient) than the current P60 SoC, that has been available for some months now.
In case you forgot, the aforementioned chipset features four Cortex-A73 cores running as fast as 2GHz, and four Cortex-A53 cores with a clock speed of 2GHz. An 800MHz Mali-G72 MP3 GPU handles graphics. Oppo is going to be the first company to use the brand new P80 and P90 SoC’s in their upcoming mid-range smartphones, but until now there’s no more information on their specs.
