We’ve had a series of leaks and rumors regarding Huawei’s upcoming Mate 20 series for quite some time now, and while we expected the company to introduce the full range of Huawei Mate 20 smartphones today at IFA, the company instead opted to launch its most awaited SoC – the kirin 980 and the Huawei mate 20 Lite. That decision is hinged on its plan to excite people, making them think “If this is the Lite, the full-fat Mate 20 must be brilliant!”, how that result to good sale volume for the Huawei Mate 20 Lite is yet to be known.
So what becomes of the Huawei Mate 20 and Mate 20 Pro? When are we expect the duo to debut? Well, Huawei at the end of 2018 IFA Keynote announced that the Mate 20 and Mate 20 pro will be unveiled at a special event in London on October 16. We have no idea when the launch event will start on the said date, but we are hopeful Huawei will live stream the launch either on Facebook or Youtube.

The brand earlier today announced the Mate 20 Lite powered by the Kirin 710 at IFA, so we are certain the other variants would adopt similar naming pattern. It has also been confirmed that the Mate 20 series (Huawei Mate 20, Mate 20 pro and maybe the Mate 20 Porsche Design) would be the first to use the newly unveiled Kirin 980 SoC before it will feature in Honor’s Magic 2 smartphone.
