Huawei’s President of Consumer Business Software Engineering, Dr. Wang Chenglu has refuted rumors about it developing its in-house Operating system. Earlier this year, we re-echoed a report that claimed the firm was seeking a self-made alternative to Google’s dominant Android OS.
The rumor was predicated on the trade and security tensions between the U.S. and China as of then, which saw the U.S commerce department placing a severe sanction on China’s ZTE. For Huawei, developing its in-house OS could be a lifesaver, at least to suppress the effect of a possible ban from Washington, however, Huawei’s President of Consumer Business Software Engineering, Dr. Wang Chenglu, when confronted with the question, dispelled such news.

When asked at the sideline of the EMUI 9.0 launch if its company is working on an in-house OS, Dr. Wang Chenglu responded by saying making an in-house OS is ‘not exactly rocket science”, but refuted the news of an Huawei OS saying that its company has no such plans, at least for the time being.
He stated that building an OS isn’t the real problem, but developing the ecosystem of supported apps that would be compatible with the operating system. While the company has a good relationship with Google and some of its partners, Dr. Wamg also stated that introducing a new OS into the smartphone market at this stage would make little or no sense. not even when it trumps Samsung to be the number one mobile phone maker in terms of sales and shipments.
