In a clearly Nintendo inspired move, Sony has just announced their first retro console the PlayStation Classic. The new console is a throwback to the good old PlayStation One, though it’s much smaller. Every PlayStation Classic comes with 20 games, all of them being classic PS1 titles like Tekken 3, Final Fantasy 7 and Wild Arms.
According to Sony, “the mini console is approximately 45% smaller than the original PlayStation, and it emulates the original’s look and feel by featuring the same controllers and similar packaging,”. It seems like a lot of care went into ensuring that the PlayStation Classic feels close to the genuine article, which is great to hear.

Not everything is the exact same though. The new console comes with HDMI instead of VGA, as well as two classic Playstation controllers for multiplayer fun. The power cable has also been updated, seeing as it’s now a normal USB cable that can be plugged in almost anywhere. Overall it seems have a nice blend of old and new features thrown in.
The device will cost $99.99 ( €99.99 / 9,980 yen / £89.99), which isn’t too steep considering it comes with 20 games. The PlayStation Classic goes on sale on the 3rd of December, so classic gaming fans better prepare their wallets. Hopefully the PS Classic manages to avoid Nintendo’s scalping issues, though we’ll have to wait and see.
