Pete Lau, OnePlus Co-Founder, and CEO said in an interview that removing the 3.5mm headphone jack was necessary in order to free up room for the in-display scanner. Which the company will call “Screen Unlock.” Lau mentions that it was one of the most drastic and hard decisions made by the company, due to its customer’s preference for the 3.5mm jack, exposed in many polls made by the company.

Gizchina News of the week

The company originally planned the in-display fingerprint scanner for the OnePlus 5T, however, the technology was too limited. Now that it’s finally reached a mature point the new sensor will debut with the OnePlus 6T. During the interview, the CEO confirmed that the 6T will also lack any kind of wireless charging. According to him, the firm will only reconsider the technology once that Wireless Charging become able to quickly charge the device without emanating heat. Lau also explained that the company won’t be increasing the costs of its devices for Waterproofing protection since only a parcel of users would be benefited from this extra cost.
