HMD’s newest and so far greatest mid-range offering – the Nokia X7 was announced in China just a few days ago, and while the X series of Nokia phones are China exclusive, the announcement sparked speculations that the Nokia X7 could launch in other markets as the Nokia 7.1 plus. However now, it seems that the Nokia 8.1 might not be a completely fresh phone altogether. The latest scoop suggests the Nokia X7 might be making it to other markets as the Nokia 8.1. While we can’t speak to the legitimacy of the report, Phonearena via Nokia anew reports that the Nokia X7 launched a few days ago was initially billed to arrive as the Nokia 7.1 plus, HMD Global’s CPO, however, after a second look at some of its company’s future smartphones reportedly had a change of heart and has since decided to release the Nokia X7 as the Nokia 8.1 in global markets.
So will the Nokia 7.1 plus still launch at a later date? While there isn’t any definitive, official answer to that, Nokia Anew reports that the device will eventually arrive, but that won’t happen until early next year.
The latest adjustment could allow HMD to match each of the Nokia series with the available processor series, with the flagship series expected to be represented by the Nokia 9 using the Snapdragon 800 chips, Nokia 8 devices will use Snapdragon 710, Nokia 7.1 Plus should feature Snapdragon 670, while the Nokia 7.1 could settle for the Snapdragon 636 SoC.
