Chinese manufacturing giant, Huawei has been dealt a huge blow after the company failed to secure the contract to supply 5G equipment to South Korea’s SK Telecom. Korea’s SK Telecom said in a statement on Thursday that the company has chosen Samsung Electronics, Nokia and Ericsson as its 5G equipment suppliers. This makes Huawei’s application unsuccessful. The telecom company said that this was the decision of the company after conducting a series of evaluations. After a comprehensive evaluation of the technology, operational stability, and existing LTE network compatibility, the company decided to choose Ericsson, Samsung Electronics and Nokia as its 5G equipment suppliers.
SK Telecom said it will begin transmission of 5G signals on December 1 and provide corresponding network services for 5G devices by March next year. It is worth noting that although SK Telecom did not choose Huawei as its 5G equipment supplier, South Korea’s LGU+ chose Huawei as its 5G equipment supplier.
