Recently, Qualcomm officially announced its Q3 2018 revenue and profits. The financial data exceeded analysts’ expectations. Analysts believes that the reason behind Qualcomm’s success has everything to do with its good cooperation with Chinese smartphone manufacturers. In addition, the new licensing model of Qualcomm wireless technology has also played a mitigating role in the tension between Qualcomm and some major customers.
Gizchina News of the week
As the world’s largest supplier of smartphone chips, Qualcomm has slowed down its previous industry growth trend because it lost such a huge customer, Apple. As a result of this, Qualcomm is giving the best deals to Chinese OEMs and the likes of Xiaomi, Oppo, Vivo, and Oneplus are now taking a huge chunk of the market thereby affecting Apple’s smartphone business.
A recent report shows that the “indefinite” battle between Qualcomm and Apple is still on and the latter has no plans for a peaceful resolution. Ever since Qualcomm and Apple fell apart, the former’s relationship with Chinese OEMs grew. Xiaomi, Oppo and Vivo are doing quite well in emerging markets like India and this has generated a lot of income for Qualcomm. Now Qualcomm has also relaxed the licensing agreement which has attracted Samsung Electronics into its portfolio.
