HTC are looking to focus on the Chinese market and launch more low-cost phones to help battle there on going market slump.
With HTC’s continued market problems and poor sales, the Taiwanese phone maker are looking at new markets to help improve things a little. One market in particular is the Chinese mainland where smartphone sales are growing faster than any other country.
China’s smartphone market is packed with Android phones from both local makers to internationally known brands, all competing to grab a slice of the action. However, HTC’s presence in China is still extremely small, and the phones they offer here all tend to cost as much as high-end devices from Samsung and Apple.

For 2013 HTC are looking to launch a range of budget phones especially for the Chinese market. HTC’s Chief financial Officer Chang Chia-lin has already stated he hopes HTC phones to be available for as low as 1000 Yuan ($160), which is the magic figure many domestic brands are competing for.
To achieve such a low retail price, HTC will likely adopt Mediatek’s MT6589 quad-core processor, which can be found in Chinese phones of the same price which impressive hardware including 13 mega-pixel cameos and large HD displays. It is unclear if HTC hope to take on these budget phones with similar specs, but we can expect some exciting low-cost phones to emerge over the coming year!
