2019 iPhone will use the new display technology by Samsung

iPhone XS and XS Max iOS

Recent reports says that Apple will use a new screen technology in at least one of the iPhones launched in 2019 which will make it lighter and thinner. Apple’s flagship iPhone model launched this year is actually the opposite of this trend.

According to the report, Apple has decided to use a touch-integrated flexible OLED panel that is different from the current iPhone screen structure. The current iPhone screen uses a separate layer of touch, and the new panel makes the device even thinner. In addition, Apple can also save costs through this screen technology, and make the screen display more beautiful, improve touch sensitivity, and even solve the problem of false touch. The technology is called Y-OCTA and will be provided by Samsung.

Apple decided to apply a touch-integrated flexible OLED panel called “Y-OCTA” to the new iPhone and commissioned Samsung to develop and manufacture it. This will be Apple’s first use of this OLED display on the iPhone. The report said that this Y-OCTA technology will be put into use next year, but the initial supply will be limited, which means that this new screen may only be used for next year’s high-end iPhone models. However, as this technology is expected to be cheaper than a separate touch layer, it may be rolled out to all iPhone models in the coming years as production increases.

According to reports, Samsung first proposed this idea to Apple in March this year, in order to continue to obtain Apple’s OLED panel orders. Samsung is currently the exclusive OLED panel supplier for iPhone X, iPhone XS, and iPhone XS Max, but Apple intends to make LG their second supplier.
