Oppo may announce its new 10x hybrid zoom technology on January 16

Today, OPPO announced that it will hold “OPPO 2019 Future Technology Communication Conference” on January 16th. The theme of the conference is “Ten for the See”. It is speculated that OPPO may bring 10x hybrid optical zoom technology considering the close similarity with the theme of the event.

Last month, OPPO’s multi-zoom technology patent surfaced online. It is speculated that the patent implies that OPPO is developing the 10x hybrid zoom technology. The OPPO 10x hybrid optical zoom technology is not unexpected. As early as the World Mobile Communications Conference (MWC) in 2017, OPPO was the first to introduce the 5x hybrid optical zoom technology.

At the heart of this technology is a dual lens which relies on a dual-telephoto lens for zooming. OPPO’s 5x optical zoom technology requires a longer equivalent focal length. In terms of optics, it requires a longer refractive distance. In order not to increase the thickness of the mobile phone, OPPO uses a periscope module as a telephoto lens. Unlike the ordinary vertical lens module, the OPPO’s telephoto lens is horizontally placed inside the mobile phone through a reflective prism. It refracts light onto the image sensor, so it can greatly reduce the size of the lens. According to the official data from OPPO, the thickness of this lens module is only 5.7mm thick. In addition, OPPO also places OIS optical anti-shake on the telephoto end, so that after the 5x optical zoom is turned on, the picture will not be shaken frequently due to the long distance.
