The LG G8 ThinQ will drop officially later this month at the firm’s pre-MWC event in Barcelona, but we do not have to wait until then to get a good grip of what the device holds both in the design and internals. Just a few hours after we saw an official-looking render that reveals it will come with some slight changes, LG has again dropped more details regarding the LG G8 ThinQ. This isn’t a new trend for the Korean company, as it is in the habit of dropping details of its upcoming flagship bit by bits even before the official launch.
Today, the company has confirmed the LG G8 will indeed get one of the features that might not be available for the Galaxy S10 from its main rival. The latest tidbit from the Korean giant says the LG G8 ThinQ flagship smartphone will use the same “Crystal Sound OLED” branding that LG has used on some of its TVs before; with this, LG will be re-echoing its commitment to delivering better sound quality.
The Crystal Sound OLED (CSO) is an innovative technology that utilizes the phone’s OLED display as an audio amplifier, similar to the sound-emitting OLED display that is expected to feature in upcoming Galaxy phones.

This doesn’t mean LG is doing away with the bottom-facing speaker, that feature is still very much there, but that is now meant to deliver impressive sound in louder use cases like speakerphone calls. What’s more, the LG G8 ThinQ phone features:
- DTS:X 3D Surround Sound that emulates a 7.1-channel system with or without earphones, a lgfirst for LG
- Hi-Fi Quad DAC that elevates the listening experience by reproducing sound with exceptional fidelity and the added ability to up-sample most audio files for increased clarity and depth
- Master Quality Authenticated (MQA) that supports high-quality audio streaming even without an unlimited data plan
- Boombox Speaker that takes advantage of the internal space of the phone as a resonance chamber to generate amazing bass and more volume
LG had in a release earlier this month confirmed the G8 ThinQ will feature a front-facing Time-of-Flight (ToF) camera sensor, which will serve multiple purposes including unlocking the device with a quick scan of their face.
The device will go official on Feb. 24 – just a few days after Samsung unveils the flagship Galaxy S10. We will bring you more details as LG’s pre-announcement continues.
Hope a 256gb version goes on sale. I will buy definitely
