The product director of Xiaomi, Wang Teng has revealed that the production of Snapdragon 855 SoC required a lot of resources and not many smartphones will come with this chip. However, Xiaomi has sealed its place for the SD855 and the company will use this chip in the Xiaomi Mi 9 and the third generation Xiaomi BlackShark phone. Lei Jun, founder, chairman, and CEO of Xiaomi Technology revealed that in August 2017, the company established the US R&D Center in order to strengthen its cooperation with Qualcomm.

At the beginning of the SD855 project, Xiaomi’s team participated in the layout of the chip, tracked and verified the whole process of the program. It also jointly optimized the chip solution and invested in the development of the Snapdragon 855. The Snapdragon 855 is currently the best chip in the Snapdragon 800 series. It not only uses the latest 7nm process but also has a “huge core” with a clock speed of 2.84GHz and a single core performance jump of 45%.
Sun Changxu, a partner of Xiaomi Industry Investment Department, added that in the past seven years, almost every generation of Qualcomm’s top chip products are Xiaomi Alpha customers, and they have been jointly researched and developed in the early stages.
